It shows you stuff you probably didn't want to see. Great product though. Really great.
You can't unsee the things this little magnifier will show you. I zoomed in on coins, my hands, my fingernails, my facial hair, my desk. You think something is clean until you put this on it and focus, just to see little films of things or little microscopic crap you'd never even think was there. Kind of scary, but I am very happy with this purchase. It has worked wonders for my soldering projects where I need to make sure I'm getting exactly what I need to get. Very easy to use. I have not got to try to SD card functionality yet but I've hooked it up as a camera to my PC and it is just amazing to be able to record what I'm doing so easily and without having to find a way to mount my phone but not have it in the way, but still be close enough to see the action while I'm soldering or desoldering. Great product. Buy it if you need it.

Great For Stamp and Coin Collectors
This is my go to tool for identifying coins and stamps. It is compact, very easy to use, and has good clarity. The functions to adjust light and magnification are very helpful. If I had one thing to change, if possible, is the amount of time it holds a charge. It has an energy saving feature that automatically turns the light and power off, and sometimes it isn't long enough for what I am working on. It isn't real sturdy in that it is so lightweight and a tiny bit top heavy, even though so lightweight. It can easily be knocked over, as I have personally experienced, however, it is well made enough that falling on the floor did not damage. It is nicely priced as well.

Great utility for the money, and fun to use.
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I've just received this product yesterday and have had a minimum amount of time to experiment with it, but my initial impression is, "wow!" This is an incredible amount of functionality for $36.00. It's a optical microscope with digital output on a 4" screen. With the insertion of an SSD card, you can also save images and video that appear on your screen. It's sold as a "coin" magnifier, but even at the minimum magnification, you cannot fit the entire single digit of the year of a coin in the screen, so powerful is the magnification. The magnification starts at "1.2X" (whatever that actually means) and increases to "4.0X," again, without any real reference to actual magnification terms such as "30X." "1.2X" is far more than 1.2 times the naked image. So, if you want to see the veins in a fly's wings, this is perfect. For a coin, not so much.BTW, I ordered some glass slides for practical use of this device. You need to keep your subject in a small plane because of the limited focal range in this and any microscope. You want to keep your subject flat, as between two glass slides. I also recommend the black option to reduce reflective glare. My suggestions to the manufacturer for improvement: 1) an option for backlight, rather than simply reflected light. For translucent or transparent subjects, this would be an improvement. 2) stiffen up the main focus mechanism so that it is perfectly square with the table. Mine is a little loose and out of square. 3) Have your instructions reviewed by someone who has just used your product for the first time. I found them a little lacking.

Decent Live View, Underwhelming Photos
I have a nice old school stereo microscope for doing SMD work, but I wanted something digital that would not only have a large screen for inspection, but give me the ability to snap photos for documentation purposes. For that first application -- inspection, this microscope does a respectable job. The onboard lighting is pretty good, and the image on the display is clear enough to get the job done. It provides a nice view for double-checking your solder joints, or quickly checking the part numbers on SMD components.Unfortunately, I've found that the images it takes look far worse than what is shown on the screen. Perhaps it's just because the relatively low resolution of the device's display hides the imperfections which are apparent when the images are viewed on the computer.Though it's not a deal breaker for me, I also had a terrible time trying to use the microscope over USB. In theory it should just show up as a standard USB video device (like a webcam). But while it was detected as such on my Linux machine, the video I got looked horrendous and ran at just a few frames per second. Admittedly though this might just be an issue under Linux, as I didn't test on any other OS. Easiest solution was to just use an SD card.On the plus side, I was surprised to find that the device has an internal battery and doesn't need to be connected to USB power to function. I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere on the product page, but I must have missed it. I fully expected the device to be tethered to the wall while using it, so the discovery that I could turn it on right out of the box was a welcome bonus. While I'm disappointed in the saved image quality, it's honestly hard to complain much at this price (~$35 in 2024). In truth, the device outperforms my expectations given the cost -- part of me expected this to be little more than a toy. I might need to look elsewhere for snapping high quality images, but I have no doubt that this device will still remain useful for me.
