Hi, the Nikon Coolpix L32 uses full size SD cards, i use this one in the nikon and it works very well http://amzn.to/2egwin6 but you can use microSD too, cause the most of them cam with an SD adapter

If you are concerned about getting the camera wet I'd recommend the hard cover case for protection or even the extended warranty for a nominal price that has added protection. I would recommend the added protection if giving to a young person not only for rain water but it if is accidently dropped. I dropped my L24 after 3 years and decided to get this new L32. The quality of the pictures/video images are crisp, clear, and so is the audio of the videos! The camera is easy to use for all ages. Comes with my highest recommendation.
