Q: Any good as HiFi speakers or are they just for surround?

Excellent as hi fi speakers. Great performance. A touch larger than I expected, not quite bookshelf size IMO. Pair with half decent cable (I used 4mm twin core on a roll from Amazon) and they will sound fantastic.

Q: My pioneer amplifier indicates that speaker impedence should be 8 ohms. Will these Wharfedales be ok to use?

Absolutely. Good amplifiers like Pioneers will perform well with speaker impedances, which differ slightly from the nominal ideal. My Onkyo amp works with 2 pairs of speakers. The Wharfedales at 6 ohms and IMFs at 8 ohms with no problems at all.

Q: Can you have one of your speakers wired high and the other low

Not sure what you mean? I would say best to wire them up the same for best results. If your referring to wiring up the bass and treble separately, removing the connector plates. With two sets of wires running to the amplifier? This can be done. Full instructions included in with items on different wiring techniques.
