Q: Is there a file size limit for recording? Maybe a 2 gb limit?how do you the files together?

The size of the recording is only limited by the size of your USB drive. I typically don't record shows longer than 2 to t 1/2 hours. So a 16gb thumb drive is perfect. However, two things to remember: 1. format the thumb drive to NTSF. otherwise the recording will be split into 1gb files; 2. When you are done, click the recording button and it starts blinking blue and green -- DO NOT remove the USB drive until the blinking has stopped (watch it for at least 5 seconds to make sure). If you remove the drive too early, your recording will disappear.

Q: So this can record HDMI from cable TV box, even though it's encrypted for all but non-recording devices?

Yes.I was able to record from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, DirecTV DVR. All of these devices enforce HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) over the HDMI interface. There will be no trouble recording from your Cable box.You may have to set the output resolution to a fixed resolution. My DirecTV box was set to change resolution depending on the channel. So my TV would switch between 480i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p depending on the format of the channel. I set the output to a fixed 1080p resolution and have had no issues since.

The USB output is USB 2.0, but it works with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 storage devices.

Q: How does this device handle Digital Rights Management content? DRM is designed to prevent copying or recording of copyrighted materials?

This device does not violate any of DRM right as you may concern:(1) It records whatever already-decrypted signal sent to display(2) It does not do direct digital to digital copy(3) It simply re-transcodes the signals(4) Its display quality therefore may be subpar that of original but for many people, it's good enough(5) Laws do not prohibit anyone from (re-)recording any of non-original copy of digital files
