As always only top E string breaks when you tune up, being the thinnest. Purchased this item and it tuned beautifully and only needed a next day re-tune to keep it there. Buying a pack of three ensures a long life for the top string, if you have a replacement.

Got them for my 7-string since I cut off too much from the high e during it's last re-string - so far I've tried fixing this string twice, both times it broke off before I had finished with the fine tuning stage - and FYI each string broke in a different place, first one snapped at the neck (humbucker) pickup, second one snapped right at the very bottom of the string, just above that tiny little washer that stops the string from coming out the other side.Also noticed that when the strings were taken out of their envelopes and un-tangled, they remained all twisted, like they had already been fitted onto a guitar before being removed, re-packaged, then sold as a set of spares. I digress... am now unwilling to attempt this again, for obvious reasons, so yeah... that's like totally cool with me, I mean I got no actual use out of this purchase, but I'm not mad or anything... >:(
