I expected the minor dents and scratches.I cannot rotate the compound axis, as you can see there is measurement degrees but I cannot find a clamping/unclamping screw nor is there any information in the users manual. I would have put a 5 star review but this non moving compound is an issue with me.

This particular lathe is different from the other low end lathes in that it has four speed ranges that effectively increase the torque of the small drive motor. The banjo is also different in that the forward, reverse, and neutral positions are positive, pinned detents (see attached photo). Other nice additions are a thread dial and felt wipers on the main bed. The chuck is a Sanou K11-100 and operates smoothly. Generally the fit and finish was better than expected however disassembly and a good cleaning are required as it comes slathered in shipping grease. Mine was rust free and had little or no mill swarf present. All the gibs must be adjusted as the lathe is not ready to run out of the box. Generally the machining is good enough to get accurate results without lapping in the ways. Vevor ships to the east coast from their Atlanta warehouse so delivery time was short.

When buying this be sure to look at everything very carefully. When mine came in it had many loose bolts in the box and the first time starting it up it seized. After diagnosing this is what I had found in the motor

The machine arrived all rusty with dents and paint chips. Oil pan was dented such that it does not lay flat due to X axis handle banging into it in the crate, control box face plate looks like someone punched it, and Y axis has no markings for distance.

I got a good buy on this lathe. These are small lathes and work well for turning smaller diameter shafts. It does well with aluminum. You can add a larger chuck and they work fine for machining the tops on pistons. (That's really the only use I apply to this lathe) If you'll be working with steel I'd pay the extra and get a larger lathe with a more powerful motor. This one does not have enough power for large projects working in steel. Is it possible? Yes, but you'll need to go very slowly and only turn just a small bit at a time or you'll completely stop the lathe every time. If you're working with aluminum and smaller projects this one may fit your needs.
